Summer is here, which means it’s time to enjoy outdoor events in the sun. There are plenty of events for you, your friends and family to enjoy this year, so you can experience the sights and sounds of the Devon coastline like never before.
There are some fantastic opportunities to enjoy in Devon, some drawing in thousands of people from across the country every year. Whether you are into sport, music, food, or culture, take a look at some of the best events going on in Devon as we list off some of our best picks for Summer 2021.
Moor 2 Sea Sportive
Now in its 5th year, the Moor 2 Sea Sportive is more successful than ever. A 37 miles/60 km route is designed specifically for those new to Sportive events and endurance cycling, welcoming those of all experience levels.
The Challenge is a 63 miles/100 km route and is our most popular distance race, whereas the Extreme is a 112 miles / 180 km route, with gradients up to 25%. We promise, this is sure to test the legs of the most experienced of endurance athletes. Experience Dartmoor’s breath-taking hills, with Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals awarded to all who manage to finish.
Abbfest
Abbfest is located at Fermoy’s Garden Centre, running from the 18th – 20th of September. Raising money for local charities and causes, £220,000 has been raised since the festival started 15 years ago. With over 200 locally brewed ales and 30 ciders available over the weekend, there is absolutely something for everyone. If beer or cider isn’t quite what you’re looking for, they also provide a bar serving wine, prosecco, and Pimm’s. Over 50 local crafters, producers of food and beverage creators will be showcasing their finest products in the food and craft marque, so make sure you get down and experience the taste of the Westcountry’s best produce.
Chagstock Music Festival
Chagstock Open Air live music festival on the north edge of Dartmoor with all-encompassing scenic views. Now at its’ 14th year, Chagstock has been a wild success. The event itself is family friendly, with including kids’ entertainment, caterers and traders, a bar tent, camping and Glamping for those who aren’t feeling too rural. Not to mention the 3 stages of live music.
Along with the musical entertainment, you may also see some great sets and designs such as tremendous stages, giant inflatables such as inflatable planets and blimps, along with some of the best ranges of different tents hosting the acts themselves.
Budleigh Salterton Literary Festival
For you literary buffs out there who fancy a bit of culture, Budleigh Salterton Literary Festival features inspiring talks, readings and conversations with talented authors, scientists, playwrights, historians, broadcasters, economists, comedians and rising literary stars. You get the full works, all over the space of 4 days, from the 15th – 19th September 2021.
The festival hosts a widely diverse selection of critically acclaimed, award-winning authors. They will be arriving at East Devon’s seaside town for the festival’s tenth consecutive year, making it a huge hit amongst locals and tourists alike.
